More than 65 volunteer hours have been contributed to the research, development and compilation of this guide. A variety of cancer survivors have been involved in the guide's development to insure it truly meets the needs of the full spectrum of people in the Annapolis/Anne Arundel County community going through the cancer diagnosis and recovery process. Ultimately, this guide is designed to:

Ease anxiety for the patient and his or her family members
Provide a positive and supportive resource in navigating the challenges, decisions and paths related to the cancer recovery process
Save the patient time, energy and money by providing them with information and direct access to information and experts that will help them throughout the process.

A patient or loved one at any stage of the cancer diagnosis and recovery process may contact Annapolis Wellness House to receive a free copy of the Resource Guide.

Programs

The Wellness House will provide free support, education and hope to people with cancer and their loved ones. Through professionally-led support groups, educational workshops, nutrition and exercise programs, and stress reduction classes, people affected by cancer will learn vital skills that will enable them to regain control, reduce isolation, and restore hope, regardless of the stage of their disease.

The Wellness House will be located in Annapolis, within a five mile radius of Anne Arundel Medical Center. It will be a large home with adequate indoor space for meetings, play room for children, and a kitchen area for enjoying snacks. A backyard with a playground and room for children to run and play is a priority. Finally, the home would have two or three modest bedrooms to provide sleeping space for families of cancer patients who are being treated or having surgery in Anne Arundel County.

The Wellness House will be staffed with a full time program director who will oversee the operation of the house. The director will keep the house open during scheduled business hours and will provide information and resources for its patients and families. Volunteers will help with child care on a scheduled basis. There also will be volunteer instructors for yoga, meditation, nutrition, and other support and educational groups.
